About Jarvis Square Pottery

I came into the world of pottery by mistake about 10 years ago.  At that time I was vacationing with my family in the Thousand Islands of Upstate New York.  My children were taking a beginning pottery class for kids and I would hang out with them there while they worked. Their instructor, an excellent potter by the name of John Arnot, suggested I give the wheel a try since I didn't seem to have anything better to do.  After a week of the usual blood, sweat and tears and much snickering on the part of my children, I found I could pretty consistently center a small lump of clay and pull up a simple cylinder.  It was a revelation.  John then made the mistake of telling me I could come and go and use the studio whenever I wanted for the rest of the summer.  Upon returning to Chicago that fall, I bought a used wheel and an old kiln and set up shop in the garage.
